Sunday leaving Lotus HIll

We got up early - Sarge had gotten out.  What a sneaky little fellow.  We had lots to do to get ready to leave.  Fed the horses, packed stuff up - batten down the hatches kind of stuff.

I told Billie I would come back as soon as I could - I can't wait to ride there again!

I pulled out at exactly 9:00 AM.  Slow drive back to Texas - around 3 hours - but I drive slow!!!

I had such a good time...I think I rode a total of 33 miles and had a blast.  I highly recommend Lotus Hill!

Saturday at Lotus Hill

Saturday

We saddled up this morning - LOL - they were teasing me about making Biscuit a pack horse with all the stuff on him.  :-)  They had offered Barry to ride Lynn's light palomino Sonny.  We all took off and the ladies split off and went on a different ride.  I had the little envelope to pay to ride on the Sandy Trail.  We stopped at the Cane camp and spoke to some very nice folks and the hubby Paul tightened my saddle.  We went througha burned out area which actually was neat looking.  We crossed over into green area - we had to pull over to the side to let 2 four wheelers pass.  I put Biscuit out front for a while and put him at a job...he did a great job.  We crossed over a beautiful creek with a bridge with no sides.  Lots of jogging which was so nice!!  Biscuit was a trooper - he really was a good boy!!

We got out 3.5 miles and Billie got a phone call that a  little red horse was out on the road.  OMG  we turned around and headed back - it could have been my horse or Kelly's little bay mare.  I couldn't believe that Sarge could have jumped the panels with his heart foot.  We were hurrying and Billie decided to canter back - I can't canter that long (not hardly) because I will lose my balance.  So she took off and Kelly and I were jogging back.  Some fast walking and a little long trotting til my legs gave out.

We went down a little trail paralleling the road almost to Lotus Hill.  There was Sarge in the pen by the barn...so yeah...it was my horse that was out.  Thank God it turned out he was up at the front of her property - not on the road.  I rode down to where the pens were and his was flat on the ground.  Some hair was on the second from the top bar.  I don't know if he pushed it down or what...I don't think he jumped it because it was laid out flat...I think he pushed it down.

I got Biscuit untacked and washed off - he was having a fit because Sarge was up at the front.  Too bad.  I got him hay and left him to check Sarge out.  He was just fine.  No marks really but I think the hair was off of his legs.  No skinned up marks though.  Sigh...Sarge is a pill that is for sure.

Kelly, Billie and I visited while waiting on the guy's to come back.  I shared a root beer with Billie - omg it was good.  I love root beers!!

Friday at Lotus Hill

Thursday - we rode seperate today - I went with Billie and Barry went with Lloyd.

Billie and I back tracked and found my saddle pad not too far from the driveway where we ended our ride yesterday.  She put it close up to the woods so no one would stop and get it.

We had a lovely ride through the woods - crossing a few creeks - one with some big logs in it that you had to navigate around.    Biscuit was very well behaved for the most part - once her dog came running out of side trail when we were out in the open on the ride away and my horse bolted for about  4 strides and then I got him under control.  Oh thank God!!!

The forest service was going to do a control burn and we could hear the helicopers over head.

Not sure how far we ride - but it was probably about 8 miles.  My Garmin was adding every mile I have rode so until I get home and look at it on the computer I wont know how long each ride was.

Barry arrived back about an hour after I did.  He had a good time he said.  They got to see the "bombs" drop that start the fires.

We rested and Billie and Lloyd took us to the store and on the way  a little tour - OMG the burn happened so fast!!!  It was already over...smoudering in places though.

I came back and I had noticed Sarge not putting weight on his back right foot.  I got in his pen and felt his foot which he let me know was sore.  I took him out to walk him to check for lameness and OMG he is lame as he can be.  That foot is swollen.  I hydro'd it and Barry soaked it in a little icy water with Absorbine Linament.  Barry said he wasn't going to ride him again.  Hoping my poor baby is ok.

We watched the fire flies that night.  So very beautiful and peaceful!

May 13 onward to Lotus Hill

Our trip to Brushy Creek didn't happen...I was pretty disappointed.  Lee Ann P had told Barry about Lotus Hill in Louisiana so he decided that we could go from Wednesday through Sunday.

On Monday I ran to Vinton and picked up 3 bales of alfalfa for my boys.  Christy went with me and we had breakfast at Cracker Barrel in Sulphur and I bought Jamie doughnuts at a shop.  He loves doughnuts and he and Edgar take such good care of my horses!

We packed the travel trailer Tuesday night.  Wednesday morning I went to Verizon for phone minutes, stopped at 5 Star Feed for a bale of coastal hay and picked Barry up a 2 water bottle holder for his saddle.

I got to the barn and Biscuit walked off from me after coming into the paddock.  Ugh...I got the feed out and here he came.  I closed the gate and gave them each a few handfuls of feed.  I took the horses one at a time down to the trailer.  I loaded them up and was able to lift the ramp...I nearly got a hernia but it was up and shut.

Barry had already left and was waiting for me in Buna.  Lee Ann B had gave me a map and directions and we went through Kirbyville and over to Newton and up to Burkville.  I had to slam on my breaks in Lumberton.  Ugh...I felt bad for my horses but we were safe.  Got rained on a little going through Lumberton and Silsbee.

I met up with Barry and he had got me a Subway and as soon as I ate it we were on our way.  Barry called and said I was driving too slow.  Oh well...I am hauling my horses and I don't drive fast!

I kept at it steady.  Gassed up in Leesville and it was 29 miles from there.  Lee Ann's directions were great - I turned in with no problems.

Billie came out to meet me and she is just a doll!!!  She showed us where to park the trailer - that took a little back and forth but we got it done.  I unloaded my horses and put them in the two pens.

After getting everything set up we tacked up and with Lloyd and Billie's instructions headed out for a ride.  It was muddy at the back gate and Biscuit is always a little charged up riding through mud plus riding with Sarge.  We rode through the woods - OMG the gnats were un-freaking-believable.  Sarge and Biscuit were shaking their heads until Biscuit had witches knots in his mane.  Got to the right of way and turned left.  OMG what a view!!!!  I will have to get the pictures and post them  Amazing.  Down we went riding the right of way and then up the same amount of trail.  We got to the road and turned left.  OMG the bugs were horrible.  We got back to the Lotus Hill Campground and oh my stars...I was missing my black felt pad!!  Barry thought I was a little crazy and didn't put it on Biscuit but I certainly did.

Hosed off the horses and fed them.  Then we kicked back and relaxed and enjoyed our camper!!!

Biscuit acted like his butt was on fire.  He ALWAYS acts that way when I ride with Barry and Sarge.  We cantered a short way - did lots of jogging.  We went down and then back up a pipe line - omg - that was fun.  Biscit was soaking wet with sweat and the bugs were freaking unbelieveable.  Biscuit kept tossing his head.

We rode about 6 miles...I didn't have the Garmin but we were going at a steady pace of lots of jogging and trotting.  When we got back I took his tack off and noticed I was short a saddle pad!  The black wool-felt on was GONE and I knew I had put it on him.  LOL never lost a sadle pad before.

I fed my horses and gave them electrolites I had made.  Biscuit drang nearly his entire bucket that holds I believe 10 gallons.    It was a beautiful ride that we both enjoyed.

Washing the Brenderup

I hauled my Trailer home so it could be cleaned.  Jarrod pulled the power washer to the drive way and started on it.  I got out there and removed the tack I brought home to clean.

Sister was right there helping.  Jarrod sprayed her and she growled and tried to attack the water stream!  She is so funny.

I cleaned the left side and Jarrod did all the rest. It was amazing.  He pulled the mats out and cleaned the inside.  I had to get towels to dry the inside ledge - it was 3" deep in water.

I cleaned the tack area too so it was all clean.  I treated Jarrod to The Olive Garden for cleaning my trailer.

Vet checks

A veterinarian as at the barn to xray Charlie, Lamonte and Azezza.  Pretty nifty looking to see the xrays of the hoofs and legs.  In the end, the people bought Azezza, Lamonte, Adiva and Charlie!!

They want to run endurance with them.  The horses will stay at the barn for training.  So glad for Charlie!!  He is a very sweet horse.  The twins and Azezza will make wonderful horses for this couple.  They will be staying at the barn for now.

Sarge gives the farrier a run for his money

On the 21st Mike and Andrew came out to trim the horses.  Mike notched out Biscuit's hooves a little more aggressively but thinks he got to the top of it.  I hope so.  Biscuit's concavity is doing GREAT.  His hooves are getting better!  I still soak them in Lysol.

Sarge gave Andrew a fit.  Pulling his feet back and just in general being a major toot which is unusual for him.  After Andrew got through, Sarge stretched out but wouldn't urinate so I put him on the grass and he finally pee'd.  Guess he needed to go!  He was pawing and carrying on though.  Mike said he liked Sarge's body weight and said it was a 5 which he likes.  Biscuit was 5.5 which he said many people like that better.

I put the surcingle on Sarge and took him in the big arena and off he took like a rocket.  He cantered for 30 minutes and threw in a few fits.  LOL wow wee...Sarge was full of piss and vinegar!!!

I got a trail riding buddy

On April 15th Barry surprised me with a Blue Heeler 6 week old puppy!  I named her Sprite.  She was welped on March 1.  He got her in Livingston.  OMG she is darling

She is just precious!  Her full name now is Sister Sara Sprite.  LOL  we just call her Sister.  She isn't afraid of anything!  She settled down pretty quickly.

We bought her toys and bowls.  I later took her back to Petco and got her a harness and leash.  I took her out to the barn and she runs to the horses.  One day she is going to be my riding buddy.
