Missed Wednesday but back on Thursday

I had to miss yesterday due to keeping Tristan.  I thought Thursday was the day Doc was coming out so I made a chocolate cake and 6 huge chocolate cupcakes and 6 big rum cupcakes.

Thursday I had to go to the hospital to see my sister in law.  I had called Lee Ann to confirm our meeting at 7.  Hahahahah it is "on a Thursday" not necessarily this Thursday.

I took the cake and cupcakes out there later.  I can certainly make more later.  Visited with Mr. Gus and Linda, Edgar and Lee Ann.  Lee Ann said she thought Legato was better.

On the way down to visit Biscuit I stopped and gave her some treats.  Her eyes looked wide open and bright.  That is a good thing.  I went down and gave Biscuit his cookies with 2cc's of Dex and then took him out to lick on his HorsLic.  Gave him more cookies and then had to go.  He seems to be doing really well.

Rasped Feet

I went to the barn this morning and Miss Jean was out there.  Cydaboo was saddled.  She had sent her off to be trained for the great grandkids.   Cydaboo is 18 and was broke I think years ago but never really ridden.

I was talking to Miss Jean and Lee Ann and I asked her about Legato.  She said yes that she started her on Marquis. The tests aren't back but she is wobbly and didn't even feel a hymostat Doc put on her back leg.  I hugged Lee Ann.  I hope Legato will be alright.  I told her about the rebate on the Marquis paste and that I would send her a link.  She said that Doc will be at the Barn Thursday at 7:00 to talk to the boarders about EPM and what to look for.

I went down the ranch road with Lee Ann and Miss Jean on the Kabota and picked up Biscuit.  He looked at me a little funny but came to me anyway.  We went back up to the ranch on the Kabota with Lee Ann holding Biscuit.  She got him to trot up there.

I hosed him off and worked on his feet.  OMG I had sweat popping out all over me.  Lee Ann had gone in for lunch so I got all of his feet done.  Not happy with the farrier work.  His toes are long.  I worked at pulling them back.  Hosed off the washrack and picked up the stallion poop...he is the one Debbie left at the barn.

I gave Biscuit cookies with 2cc's of DEX and then extra cookies.  He is such a good boy.  I took him back to his pasture driving the RAV4.

I went home and Lee Ann called and asked about what I said about Biscuit being brighter in the eyes in a 3 or 4 days.  She said she just went and got Legato and she looked a little brighter.  That is wonderful.  We discussed EPM and the range of issues it covers.

I will be going Thursday evening and bringing chocolate cake.  Doc, Lee Ann, The McFaddin's and Jamie love chocolate cake so I will bring some desserts and little plates.   While this isn't a party, of course, it will be a nice time to get to know some of the new borders.  I am just going to make bundt cakes as it is way easier.

Monday at the Ranch

I went to the ranch and visited with the Lee-Ann's . I went down with them on the Kabota and got Biscuit.  They continued down the road and then picked me up on the way back.

I worked on Biscuit's feet and did 1 and part of another.  Biscuit is looking good.  I brushed him and took him back.  He licked on his HorsLic until it started sprinkling and I had to go.  I got rained on some but not bad.

Sunday Lightening Strikes!

It was sun shining when I went out to the barn.  I got the Kabota out and went down and got Biscuit.  I put the Kabota back in the barn.  I gave Biscuit cookies with 2cc's of DEX.  I will give him that every other day.

I started working on his hooves.  The fronts look too long to me.  I feel good enough to resume hooves.  It is hard work.  ;-)   Lee-Ann was grooming Rogue.  She said something about Miss Jean telling Jamie not to forget to give Legato her medicine for EPM.  I told her Lee Ann P had mentioned she though Legato may have it.  :-(

I was brushing Biscuit and soaped up his mane and tail.   Clouds came over and a HUGE lightening strike hit over toward  Twin City that I could see.  Then BOOOMMMM.  Biscuit and Rogue spooked up harder than I thought they would.   More lightening. Lee-Ann was done with Rogue and headed back down to his pasture.  Boom...another and Biscuit startled but not bad...I was just glad I didn't have his foot in my hand.  I untied him and head down to his pasture before it got worse.  Lightening was pooping all over.  I saw Lee-Ann turn Rogue loose.  He took off when a lightening bolt hit.  I told Lee-Ann to get in the car before she got hit!  We headed down the road and another big bolt hit and Biscuit spooked and skittered away pulling the rope out of my hand.  Bless his heart he just stood there until I got out and got his rope.  He trotted all the way to his pasture.  I got out and got him in his pasture - soap still in his mane and tail!

I will have to finish those feet later.

Saturday 9:00 AM Week one without Marquis.

I went to the barn earlier today.  I got on the Kabota, took my treats and headed down the road.  Biscuit was out in the pasture and he looked askance at me...but then he came in and let me halter him.  He had those dang black flies on his neck so I took him up to wash rack.  He seems a little less forward but it may be time to start Dex or he may have thought a trailer ride to the park was in his immediate future!!

At the wash rack I cleaned his legs off of blood spots and cleaned his hooves.  I fly sprayed him and gave him treats.  Brushed his face and his body, brushed that mane and tail.  Got hugs and kisses fro my sweetheart.

I took him back down to his pasture and let him go after his sucker the HorsLic.

Friday

I wasn't able to go to the barn today.  I went with my sister to her doctor's appointment in Tomball.  We visited with our cousins, Sheena, Judy, Kheena and her hubby Hector.

I wonder if he missed me?!!

Thursday

Went to the barn around 10:15 AM . Spoke with Miss Jean - she said I started a trend with those Biscotti I made her this year.  She said she made them 5 times while they were up in Canada and now her friends are making them :-)  Yay!!

I hopped on the Kabota and went down to Biscuit.  He came into the corral and stood quietly so I could halter him.  Kate, as always, was in the way.  Bless her heart.  She has no ground manners but is a sweet horse.

I took Biscuit out and gave him about a cup and half of pellets and then he was able to lick on his HorsLic.  He transferred to grass.  Then a giant bolt of lightening and I was done!

I told Lee Ann that Dinero was too dumb to be a ranch dog.  He cut right in front of me on the Kabota.  OMG had I been going fast I would have creamed him.

I told her the HorsLic may turn Biscuit into 100% perfect of coming to me and letting me halter him.  The big test will be when we start riding again.  If he returns to not coming to me, so be it.  He is pretty dang perfect to me.

Wednesday Red Letter Day

I went to the barn at 11:00 AM and rode with the Lee Ann's down to Biscuit 's pasture in the Kabota.  Hummmmm Biscuit said.....why is she on the Kabota and it is 11:00 AM?  What is she up to?  A ride?   He didn't come into the corral but stood outside of it.  I got the halter and lead rope and walked up to him.  He kind of sucked back but let me halter him all the same.  WOW.

Haltered Biscuit walked out to lick his HorsLick and then head for the barn.

He was hosed off and cleaned up.  I put him in the arena and was helping The Lee Ann's clean feed buckets.

I went to get him and he was standing at the gate - nostrils flaring, sides billowing in and out and every blood vessel dilated.  He didn't seem to be afraid or upset so I thought maybe he was running in the arena.

I hosed him off again and waited til he stopped breathing so hard.  He must have been flying out there or something caused him to be upset.  Who knows - all kinds of stuff running up and down the road there.

I left and went to Beaumont and came back to check on him.  He was just fine.  I put Equiderma lotion on his pasterns as he has that little fungus that always comes back.

I check on his medication and Jamie wasn't giving it correctly so I think we are lined out on dias and noches.  I hope Jamie now understands!!

Tuesday's visit

I went out to the barn to see The Biscuit.  He came in immediately.  I put his halter on him and let him walk up and down the ranch road.  He is such a good baby.  He is looking wonderful

Kellie texted me last night. They were on their way to Buffalo Texas to pick up Elan.  He wasn't doing well so they met the people that had him half way and took him to the vet clinic in Waller.  They thought he was colicking.  He cut his legs all up in the fence.

He has enteritis which is inflammation of the intestines.  They have put in a tube so they can reflux every two hours.  He is supposed to come home in a few days.  Kellie is just going to bring him back home instead of sending him back where he was doing some R & R for his COPD.

Crushed up pills

I went out to the barn with Mazlyn and Rhys to give the pills to Edgar and Jamie.  Biscuit came up and I pulled the purple pan into the corral to let him lick on it.

Biscuit is looking fantastic!

Sunday First Day of Antibiotics for Biscuit

I didn't get out there this morning but went at feeding time but I missed it by a few minutes - Jamie fed a little earlier than 4 and I got there at 4!

I talked to The Lee Ann's that were just coming back from a camping trip and then got a little bit of feed and went down to get Biscuit.  He ate the feed and the pills but spit them out.  I put them back in and made sure he ate them.  I let him graze and lick on the HorsLic.

I went to Dollar General and bought a bunch of pill sorters.  Came home and mashed up the pills and dumped it into the sorters - 2 for each dose plus 1 for vanilla cake mix.  I was able to get one full days doses plus the cake mix into each one of them.  I had enough to make a weeks worth.

I will take it out to Jamie tomorrow and show him how I want it fed.  :-) This will all be behind us soon thank God.

Thank you Jesus for healing Biscuit.

Saturday LAST DAY OF Marquis

I took Jackson out to the barn to give Biscuit his last dose of Marquis.  Jackson drove the Kabota down the ranch road.  We stopped to see Lamb Chop the little Brahman Bull.  Then down to give Biscuit the last dose.  We got a shovel and Jackson dug a little ditch to let the water out of the corral.

He had a good time and wants to come back in October to stay with me.  I promised him he could ride Biscuit.

Biscuit is looking great.  Looks like he feels good.  Comes in IMMEDIATELY to me.  That is nice!

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Meds

I went late in the evening Tuesday and Wednesday to the barn n Barry's truck.  Biscuit is doing great.

Thursday Kayden and I went to the barn and took the hay out of the Brenderup and stacked it on a tarp and covered it.  I will need to bungie it down.  We took the Kabota down to see Biscuit and give him his medicine.

Friday I had Maz, Rhys and Jackson with me.  We went to Harbor Freight to get new tarps.  Jackson was great helping me bungie down a new tarp over the hay.  The other one was blown off the top of it but the hay didn't seem to have got wet.  We gave Biscuit some treats.

I went back later and fed Biscuit.  He is doing just fine and I thrilled to say!  Tomorrow is his LAST day on Marquis.

Tuesday Hay and Meds

Kayden and I drove to Winnie and picked up 18 bales of Jiggs hay for $81.  I called Lee Ann and we are going to try to find a place for it at the barn.  I brought the hay home and we will unload it probably Thursday.

I dropped Kayden off and brought the trailer home and backed it in.  I didn't go out to the barn until it was dark!  I got a little bit of feed, hugged up I-Lean and went down to Biscuit's pasture.  He and Fat Kate came running in and then went out running and rearing up so I guess he is feeling just fine!

I called him and wow!  He came into me.  He let me halter him with no issues and I walked him out and fed him his little snack and then let lick on the HorsLick.  Woo Hoo!!  He is getting better!!

Biscuit goes to the vet for a checkup and report

I got to the barn around 8:15 and Biscuit was locked up when I got down there in the Kubota.  He was soaking wet with sweat so I walked him slowly up to the barn and hosed his off as he was nasty.  Cleaned his face with a rag and he liked that after he realized I wasn't going to hurt him.  I guess that towel looked pretty big!!  I brushed his mane and tail and loaded him up.

We hauled over to Doc's and I unloaded him.  There was a stallion on the front porch apron so I had to move Biscuit out of his line of vision.  Doc then came to check out Biscuit.  He had Kayla walk him up and down and turn both ways.  Then he said to trot him out and Biscuit picked up that trot immediately and swished down the aisle.

Doc checked his eyes etc.  He said he was doing great.  He will take the last tube of Marquis and then start on 25 days of an antibiotic.  Still no to the Platinum supplement.  He was ok with a few licks on the HorsLic.  Biscuit had some welts from bug bites and Doc said 5cc of the Dex for 2 days if it doesn't clear with 1 dose.  Call him if they don't go away.

I asked Doc about having to give him DEX if I need to for his COPD.  He said that was ok as they often give DEX to jump start the Marquis.  He said he was out checking on Fat Kate the other day at Plum Nearly and Biscuit was going bananas running and bucking.

I asked about worming and that will be in 4 weeks when his shots are due.  I will bring him to Doc for his shots and at that time we will determine whether he can be ridden on my planned camping trip to Ebenezer on the 3rd weekend of September.  I told him it would be his call.

It was $113 Monday.  I applied for the rebate that I thought was going to be $60.  OMG it is $125!!! YAY.

While I was there someone called Doc about hay and I got their name and number and called about it as it is Jiggs hay.  I will go get some tomorrow.  Kayden is going to help me.

I got Biscuit back to the barn and dropped him off.  I went back later with the DEX and gave him 5cc's and his Marquis.  He is coming into me every time.  I hope by giving him the HorsLic as  treat will keep him coming to me.

I called Platinum to cancel and woo hoo.  She refunded me the other bucket and said to keep it or donate it to Doc.  I told her I am hoping Doc will reverse that decision and I will put Biscuit back on it so hopefully in a few months.

Friday through Sunday

I had a wedding this weekend so I went out to the barn at various times.  Friday I had to go to the airport to get Rori Fae. I brought her home around 1:30.  I had to wait til Morgan got home  to go out to the barn to give Biscuit his medication.  I talked to Jamie about doing Jackie's Quinceneara Cake next year.

Saturday I went out after delivering my wedding cake.  Biscuit seems to be doing great.

Sunday I went out after we had a little party for Rori Fae's 3rd birthday.    I sent a message to Jamie to lock up Biscuit tomorrow as we are going to the vet.  Jackie called me back and we discussed her cake.  I am going to be one of the godmother/sponsors.  :-)

Wednesday and Thursday Medication

I gave Biscuit his medicine around noon on Wednesday.  He seems to be doing well.  He ate some grass and and gave him some treats.  Fly sprayed him and Equiderma lotion on his fetlock

I went out at 6:30 on Thursday to give him his medicine.  He is now on Day 19 of 28.  He looked perky in the face.  I could see where he had scraped over his right eye on something - no blood just some hair loss.  I fly sprayed him today.  Flies are there but nothing horrible.

I called Doc yesterday and made the appointment on Monday at 9:00 AM to go for his check up.  I will try to get to the barn around 7:45 as I want to hose him down before I load him up so he is clean and not a dirty looking dude.  :-)

My friend Cherry (that I bought the Road Runner Trailer from) said that her late sister Linda's horse has EPM.  She texted that to me today.  I am so sorry.  He is being treated by Dr. Findley in Vinton, La.  I hope they caught it early.  He was weak in the backend and fell down on his knees trail riding.  OMG.  I would have been so upset.  I told her I would pray for him.

Monday's Medicine

I went to the barn around 11:30 am taking plates of brownies for a taste test!  The Lee Ann's, Edgar, Jamie and Carson tasted and critiqued 3 different recipes of brownies.  They like the light chocolate ones the best.  Woot.

I made Biscuit's medicine in a little scoop of feed and went down to the pasture.  He came in and I haltered him and led him out to eat his treat/medicine.  I then opened his HorsLic and let him lick away.  We are doing that every day and hopefully he will continue coming to me even after this daily medicine routine is over.

He slimed me from shoulder to hand walking him back into the pasture.  :-)  Lots of hugs and kisses today.  Thank God he seems to be normal!!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Meds

I went out Friday afternoon to get Biscuit's feed ready.  The LeeAnns were both there and I spoke with them.  I had Morgan and Tristan with me.

Biscuit looked just fine.  I gave him treats, let him lick his HorseLic - I had left the feed mix with Jamie.

Saturday I did basically the same.  Mixed it and left it with Edgar.  Biscuit enjoyed his HorseLic for a few minutes.

Sunday I went out after they had already been fed - got there about 15 minutes too late.  I mixed him up a RTIC cup of feed, mixed in the medication that started week 3 so we are 15 days into the medication.  I went down to the pasture and he came in and I haltered him and led him out so I could feed him without interference from Fat Kate.  He ate his feed and then I opened the HorseLic.  I fly sprayed him while he enjoyed that.

He is looking NORMAL.  Just NORMAL.  I like that.  I am watching for heavy breathing - he coughed once trotting up to the barn Thursday so I know that freaking COPD is right around the corner.  Hoping it is light this year as it hasn't been hot this week.  Warm of course - but today is was cloudy and overcast with some sprinkles.

Thursday Meds and hooves are trimmed

Lee Ann P. texted and said Craig was at the ranch.  I got up from my chair and got ready and ran a few errands.  I got some Nicker Makers to give to Biscuit and got to the barn around 11:30.  I went down to the pasture and lo and behold!!  Biscuit came in and I let him lick the HorsLic for a few minutes and then haltered him and took him up to the wash rack.   He put himself into a trot on the way up - he coughed one time.  I will have to keep a watch on that and start his Dex if he needs it but I will have to consult with Doc before I do that.  He may have to go up in the arena with a fan on him.   I tied him in the arena til Craig was ready.  I got him some grain and added in his Marquis for a mid-day snack.  When he was ready I cleaned the sand out of Biscuit's feet.

Craig did his feet and I asked him if he felt any weakness in his back end and he said no.  Good Biscuit!!

I hosed him off.  Lee Ann suggested I wash his legs in Skin So Soft with water to keep the mosquitoes and flies away.  So I did that. Biscuit had a longish 3" or so raised spot on his neck on the left side.  I am assuming from insects.

I stayed with Craig until he was done with Anika.  She is very difficult to shoe and he was putting on 4 shoes.  I told him he needs to tranquilize her as she is dangerous!

Biscuit seems to be doing well. Can't wait til my boy is healed and better - we are going trail riding in November and December over in Louisiana if I can!
